Here’s How You Can Celebrate Happy Canada Day in Vancouver!

The Ultimate in Safety, Service and Satisfaction

There aren’t that many national occasions that can get everyone excited, and Canada Day (or Fête du Canada) is definitely one you can look forward to. Of course, you can always choose to just relax at home or catch up on some of your missing sleep hours. However, for those looking to join in the festivities and just spend time with others, you’ll have tons of options to choose from, and we have them all right down here for you:

Watch the Fireworks

You’ll have to admit that there’s just something magical and mesmerizing about blooming fireworks lighting up the sky. Be it a fascination with the many colors, patterns or sky-lighting highlights, it’s one activity that’s sure to leave you feeling awed and inspired.

As usual, for some of the most epic fireworks show in all of Canada, you’ll want to head on over to catch the Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show over at Dundarave and Coal Harbor. Just remember that the fireworks will not be visible from Spanish Banks or English Bay, so do grab a spot for yourself somewhere on the northwest side of Downtown Vancouver to take in all the splendid pyrotechnics.

Venue: Barges in Dundarave and Coal Harbour

Time & Date: 10:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. (1 July)

Admission: FREE

Have a Cookout or BBQ

It’s going to be summer, so you know it’s going to be a great opportunity to spend your days warming up outdoors. Fire up the grill, throw on some delicious meats and just get everyone else involved. Now that the temperature is heating up, you might as well plan tons of outdoor food adventures to celebrate the season.

Spend Time with Your Family

Nothing shouts family time louder than a national holiday, so it’s definitely the perfect opportunity to meet and catch up with one another. Rather than spending time at home, you should consider joining in the many family-friendly festivities all around Vancouver.

If you’re looking for tons of fun under the sun, you really can’t go wrong with Granville Island’s Canada Day celebration. Here, you’ll get to enjoy a Canada Day Parade, an official ceremony with cake, tons of food trucks and restaurants to choose from, live music and other stunning performances, as well as a multicultural fair.

Venue: Granville Island, Vancouver, BC

Time & Date: 8 a.m. to Midnight (1 July)

Dress Up in Red and White

Even if you’re not into dressing up in overly bright colors, you can still get into the spirit with everyone else by incorporating a more subtle color palette instead. White’s a pretty easy color that goes well with everything else, and there are tons of ways to incorporate red into your look. If you’re feeling stuck, you can always go online for more inspiration.

Dine on Lots of Salmon

Sure, you can get your hands-on salmon every other time of the year, but we’re talking about the famous Steveston Salmon Festival that happens every Canada Day at Steveston Village. Their salmon barbecue includes over 1,200 pounds of wild salmon fillets grilling deliciously on open fire pits. It’ll be $16 per plate, but don’t think you can take your time getting there as the feast is over once the salmon runs out (and believe us, it sells out every year!). There will also be other festivities, activities and even a parade, so do come on over with everyone to have a blast.

Venue: Steveston Village, Richmond

Time & Date: 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (1 July)

Price: $16/plate

Go on Vacation

This year, Canada Day falls on a Monday, so if you’re looking forward to going on a short getaway, now’s your chance. Of course, this doesn’t mean you need to book a plane ticket or set your sights on another country as you’re ultimately looking forward to just relaxing and taking some time off. However, to avoid last minute inflated holiday costs, you should plan ahead in advance.

Decorate Your Home

There aren’t many occasions where we’ll feel compelled to decorate our home any differently, and Canada Day is one occasion where you can truly express your creative ideas. Even if you’re not into the whole idea of jazzing up your place, you can still proudly and loudly declare your love by putting up the Canadian flag.

Party Away

What’s to love about over the top celebrations? Well, just about everything. Instead of spending the day at home on the couch, you should definitely consider hanging out and celebrating Canada Day with everyone else. Why? Because it’s simply a whole lot of fun.

Join Downtown Vancouver's biggest Canada Day party for free at the annual Waterfront Party over at Canada Place. There’s usually something going on here pretty much most of the year, but when it comes to Canada Day, you can definitely expect an explosive crowd and tons of fun. Here, you’ll get to feast on plenty of food truck servings, join in the many family-friendly activities, watch tons of live performances, and so much more.

Venue: Canada Place, 999 Canada Pl, Vancouver, BC V6C 3T4

Time & Date: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (1 July), Parade starts at 7 p.m.

Admission: FREE
